Our son, Francis was utterly blessed to have had the chance to work with Chelsea as a speech therapist. We met Chelsea through Strong Start--one of DC's Early Intervention programs that provides services to kids with varying challenges. Francis was diagnosed with a speech delay (along with Autism Spectrum Disorder) and a fine motor skill disorder when he was a little older than a year and a half old. As Francis's parents, we were a bit frightened about what the future would hold for our son, but we trusted the experts and agreed that Francis would greatly benefit from early intervention. We also felt entirely fortunate to have access to these services. The day we met Chelsea, it was as if a bright light surrounded her when she walked into our apartment. She lit up the entire space with a dazzling smile and her upbeat personality. When she spoke to us, it was as if we were speaking with someone that we'd known for a long time, which not only helped put us at ease, but it also worked wonders for Francis. Not only did we feel comfortable with her, we admired her confidence in her knowledge about the field of speech pathology and were impressed by the amount of experience she had. Chelsea worked with Francis for well over a year, until we moved to New York. During that time, we saw immense progress in Francis's communication; everything from his body language to his eating habits to his overall speech greatly improved. Chelsea is not only a speech therapist, she is a cheerleader. She cheers for her clients, because she believes in them. I always felt that Chelsea loves what she does, and she does what she does because she loves it. She's a great communicator, patient, fun, creative, and funny! To this day, Francis mentions Ms. Chelsea--and we hope he will never forget her.
